You know that foals are born without any immunity and must find a lot of IgG in the colostrum of their mother in the very first hours of their lives.
If this IgG transmission fails your foal is in grave danger and will probably get sick very soon.
To be sure everything is OK, use this refractometer to test the colostrum of the mare, just before or just after the birth, before the foal got some.
It's a simple item, cheap, easy to use and accurate. Without any electronic or batteries, it will last forever.
If the colostrum appears to be not so good, you will be aware your foal needs help and be able to call for the vet in time.
