When small difficulties occurs during or after the foaling, this hand milker can save you a lot of problems. A weak foal who has difficulties to stand, a not terribly motherly mare who doesn't make it easy for her foal, this kind of problems happen regularly and the stress can rapidly rise because the time is short for the foal to get his colostrum.
Often one or two bottles of colostrum are enough to avoid major difficulties, give a bit of time to the foal to rest and get stronger.
But milking a mare by hand is no small task. It's often not easy, even if you succeed you will need both hands (which means someone else to handle the mare) and you may waste a part of the precious colostrum, trying to handle a large bowl under a mare's udder.
This hand milker is originally designed for goats. I tried it on my mares and, even if it is not as adapted as specially designed milkers, it works OK, you won't lose milk in the straw.
New model with a 1l bottle which is extra convenient even for large mares.
It will also be very useful to safely collect and store colostrum after a normal foaling.
